Applied Behavior Analysis is a specialty within the field of psychology which aims to better understand and effect behaviors.  Currently, it is the only scientifically validated therapy to treat Autism.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a learning difference largely characterized by impaired social skills, communication difficulty, and repetitive behaviors.  Children on the spectrum often have difficulty with non-verbal social cues, abstract concepts, drawing inferences, and generalizing knowledge to other settings.  These individuals are often more comfortable interacting with objects than individuals.  These characteristics can interfere with the ability to function socially and negatively impact academics.  Applied Behavior Analysis targets relevant skill sets to improve social outcomes.  Autism appears during early childhood development, and can be diagnosed as early as 1 to 2 years of age by a trained professional.

Prevalence

According to a 2020 report, the CDC found that approximately 1 in 54 children are diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder

Background

Jonathan first started working with individuals on the Autism Spectrum in 2003.  After seeing the amazing personalities and skills of clients and students, he focused his energy on working with individuals with High Functioning Autism (HFA).

For the next decade, Jonathan worked as a behavioral therapist and Math/Science teacher at a high school for Autistic students.  While teaching, he learned about brain development, sensory input, regulation, as well as many of the deeper social challenges faced by students with High Functioning Autism.  After completing a Masters in Community Social Psychology with a focus on Behavioral Intervention in Autism, he switched his focus to Autism in young children.  In 2020, Jonathan started a practice as a Licensed Applied Behavioral Analyst in Massachusetts.
